The Rocca Family

A to Z

Angelo Rocca

Born January 20, 1908

Died September 14, 1965

Angelo Rocca

Standing ready to go into action for his homeland and perhaps gather some new land for Italy in northern Africa.

Angelo Rocca

On the river terrace in Pian dei Manzi near the community water supply.

Angelo Rocca

Getting a little older here, perhaps in his late 30's ?

Angelo Rocca

He must be in his 50's getting close to his last year 1965. Dead at age 57, Angelo is buried at the Coreglia cemetery.

Carlo Rocca

Getting ready for his millitary adventure in northern Africa.

Carlo Rocca

Carlo (left) standing in a portrait with his millitary buddies.....

Carlo Rocca

Died a millitary man so perhaps future generations in his family wouldn't have to. Carlo was buried in northern Africa.

Elina

Born Elena Rocca in 1906, she later married Alex Noce. They had a son named Bruno. Elina appears in many photographs from Bruno's Pian dei Manzi private collection. Elina grew up with her friend Maddalena Rocca, mother of Bruno's wife Lugiana.

Elina and Maddalena

The best of lifetime friends, Elina (left) and Maddalena (right) Don't know who's in the middle?

Elina and Maddalena

Lifetime friends and dressed in their favorite lilly print dresses with matching lilly white shoes. Their white gloves must be at home so they had to hide their hands in their pockets? These two also use walking sticks. Both are buried at the Coreglia cemetery.

Elina and Maddalena

Its after church and photo opportunity is made. Elina (second from left) is holding a set of beads. Maddalena is third from right.

Elina and Alessandro Noce

On a hill overlooking the church dome in Florence. Picture postcard perfect, if you ask me.

Elina

An interesting photographic effect of the time......

Elina, Luigina and Maddalena

Elina, Bruno's mom (left) Bruno's wife Lugiana (center) and Lugiana's mother Maddalena (right). Maddalena and my great grandmother Elisa are sisters.

Genova 1966

Photo by Bruno Noce. From left to right: Frank, Mary, Maddalena, John, Elina and Luigina.

Ester Rocca (Quierolo)

Ester Rocca is another sister of my great grandmother Elisa Rocca. Unlike the other Rocca's, Ester and Elisa emmigrated from Pian dei Manzi, Italy to Staten Island, New York. They, two sisters eventually married two twin brothers (Louie and Broggio) Quierolo and settled on the northwest coast of America.

Maddalena Rocca

Enjoying herself in the countryside of Pian dei Manzi.......

Maddalena Rocca

No fertilizer required. Think the Pacific Northwest can grow green stuff everywhere you look. The northwest coast of Italy can grow more, its totally out of control.

Maddalena Rocca

At Pian dei Manzi and not getting her hair styled.

Maddalena Rocca

A bit older here, this portrait perhaps taken in the 1970's. Maddalena lived to the age of 76 and is buried at the Coreglia cemetery.

Maria Rocca

Suor Maria Dominica Cuneo

Born: July 23, 1879

Died: December 3, 1960

Maria Rocca

Donating her life to the orphanage school in Rapallo so perhaps future generations of her family would be off the hook? This 1919 photo shows Maria (middle left) with other nuns helping orphaned children.

Maria Rocca

Off in the distance (center), Maria feeds the orphaned children. Maria died at the age of 81 and is buried at the Coreglia cemetery.

Roberto Rocca

Born: November 5, 1914

Died: February 3, 1958

Roberto Rocca

Roberto (upper left) standing ready to take on whatever challenges him and his buddies among F-Troop will face in northern Africa.

Roberto Rocca

A closer look at Roberto (upper left) and funny how that other guy on the bottom left looks like someone I know?

Roberto Rocca

Center with the mule train marching to duty in Northern Africa for their homeland.

Roberto Rocca

Perhaps Roberto is in his 20's in this portrait.

Roberto Rocca

At Pian dei Manzi working the fields.........

Roberto Rocca

The best photo of Roberto who died when he was only 43 years old and is buried at the Coreglia cemetery.

Stephano Rocca

Born May 24, 1897

Died March 11, 19??

Stephano Rocca

A portrait of Stephano as a soldier ready to patriotically defend his homeland.

Stephano Rocca

The decorated soldier who is buried at the Coreglia cemetery.
